Amid mounting concerns over railway connectivity in Meghalaya, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has expressed hope that political parties will reconsider their decision to stay away from the proposed all-party committee on railways. His appeal comes in the wake of certain parties declining to participate, raising questions over democratic engagement on a critical developmental issue.
Talking to Media persons, Sangma said, “We got some negative response from certain political parties so we were slightly now moving forward because we would like to see everybody on board, it’s an important issue.”
He stressed the need for open discussion, adding, “My point is that whether you agree or don’t agree, at least we sit and we talk and put our idea on table and without having a proper democratic process in the whole thing, some political parties have decided not to participate in this which I feel is democratically very wrong message.”
Sangma further stated, “At least you agree or disagree, the platform is being provided and we should sit and put our heads together. At least the facts will come out.”
He concluded with optimism, saying, “I am hoping that the parties will reconsider their stand and then we will decide on the dates and if that doesn’t happen then very soon we will finalize the dates.”
