Following the successful installation of over 335 CCTV cameras in and around Shillong under the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Urban Affairs, Sniawbhalang Dhar, on Monday said that several localities have submitted fresh requests for CCTV coverage to bolster public safety.
“We are studying now based on the size of the area. It (demand for CCTVs) will be more,” said Dhar, adding that the government is planning to expand CCTV infrastructure to other regions including Jowai and Tura.
Dhar also lauded the Home (Police) department for swiftly cracking the murder case of newlywed tourist Raja Raghuvanshi from Indore, who was killed in Sohra, and for arresting those involved. “I would like to thank the home department; they have done a tremendous job to get all these culprits. I would like to thank local people for extending their help to police, NDRF, SDRF during the search operation. Congratulations to the police for nabbing the culprits behind the case,” he said.
He further asserted that the government will act at an appropriate time against those who attempted to malign the image of Meghalaya.
