Stepping up preparations for the upcoming elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday announced its second list of candidates for the April 10 polls, signalling the party’s intent to expand its footprint in the politically crucial Garo Hills region ahead of the council elections.
The list of candidates approved by the party’s State Election Committee includes Alphonse Sangma from Gasuapara, George P Sangma from Babelapara, Karmingstone N Marak from Raksamgre and Miritha T Sangma from Jengjal. Announcing the names, State general secretary Wankitbok Pohshna said, “The names approved by the State Election Committee are Alphonse Sangma (Gasuapara), George P Sangma (Babelapara), Karmingstone N Marak (Raksamgre) and Miritha T Sangma (Jengjal).”
The GHADC elections are scheduled to be held on April 10, with counting of votes fixed for April 14, setting the stage for a multi-cornered contest across the district council constituencies in the Garo Hills region.
