A shocking case of sexual assault was reported on August 27, 2025, from a village under Block-II falling within the jurisdiction of Mawlasnai OP, where an Assam Police personnel allegedly sexually assaulted a girl child. The accused was initially apprehended by villagers but managed to escape.
The case was formally registered as Nongpoh Women PS Case No. 45(08)2025 under Sections 3(a)/4/5(a)(iv)(m)/6/18 of the POCSO Act. Following swift inter-state coordination, a police team was dispatched to Lumding, Assam, to arrest the accused, identified as LNK/121 Projen Langthasa of 18th APBN, Lumding. The arrest was effected on Friday afternoon, and the accused was subsequently brought to Nongpoh the same evening.
Confirming the progress of the case, SSP Ri Bhoi District, V.S. Rathore, stated, “Investigation is in full swing and chargesheet will be submitted soon. We will take all necessary action to complete the trial at the earliest and ensure justice for the victim/survivor. Moreover, proceedings will be initiated without any delay to provide compensation as per law to the victim by the State Government. We thank all the officers of the Government of Meghalaya as well as Assam for prompt assistance in the matter.”
