Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong on Thursday said the Meghalaya government is preparing to launch another round of recruitment in the police department as vacancies have once again begun to accumulate despite the recent filling up of more than 3,000 posts. The move comes amid the government’s efforts to further strengthen policing, enhance grassroots outreach and improve awareness of laws and regulations across the State.
Speaking to mediapersons in Shillong, Tynsong said the Police Recruitment Board has already initiated the process and a fresh advertisement for recruitment is expected within the next few months. “After the recently the state Government has filled up over three thousand vacancies in the police department, again the vacancies started accumulating may be around one thousand odd plus, even this issue has been worked out by the police recruitment board and I think within few months from now, we will again go for advertisement for recruitment in the police force.”
The Deputy Chief Minister said the government intends to expand the reach of the police department to every corner of Meghalaya, including remote villages, while simultaneously strengthening training, workshops and public awareness initiatives. “From the police department we want to reach out to all the corner of the state, including the small or big villages, and I think we will, from now on, we will have further strengthening of the training, the workshop, the awareness program, so now initiative will be taken from the home police department as how to go about it.”
Emphasising the importance of legal awareness among citizens, Tynsong said, “As I said it is so important us to understand the importance of regulation and laws passed be it by the central or by the state laws.”
