Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Transport Sniawbhalang Dhar on Friday said the Meghalaya government would not “bulldoz” decisions on the contentious railway issue and would instead adopt a consultative approach by taking all stakeholders on board before arriving at any conclusion.
“This government never bulldoz we take everybody on board. The government priority is to take everybody on board,” Dhar said.
Asked about the all-party committee on railways, Dhar said the matter could not be resolved immediately and would require detailed consultations and repeated meetings before arriving at a consensus.
“It takes time, it doesn’t mean we will solve everything in one go, it may take two three meetings, we may also go for 10-15 meetings. We have to take everybody on board,” he said.
Asked whether Garo Hills appeared more open towards railway connectivity and if more railway lines could come up in the region, the Deputy Chief Minister said public perception differed across various parts of the State and stressed the need to create awareness among local communities.
“It depends on the perception of people different places, that is why we have to make awareness amongst locals. Everything new things takes time,” he added.
