BJP eyes five seats from Shillong in 2028 Assembly polls, targets 10–15 overall wins in Meghalaya

Senior BJP legislator AL Hek on Thursday expressed confidence that the party is looking to significantly expand its electoral footprint in Meghalaya, asserting that it aims to secure at least five Assembly seats from Shillong town in the 2028 elections, alongside a broader target of 10 to 15 seats across the State.
Speaking on the party’s organisational strategy and poll preparedness, Hek said the BJP is actively working on strengthening its base across Meghalaya through sustained outreach and mobilisation efforts by senior leaders and party workers. He indicated that the party’s focus remains on consolidating support in both urban and rural constituencies as part of its long-term expansion plan.
Talking to Media persons in Shillong, Hek said, “We are going to expand BJP in whole Meghalaya, every senior leader and Karyakartas are working very sincerely to reach out to all the places all over the state to see that BJP performs well in 2028 Assembly election.”

Outlining the party’s electoral ambition, he further stated that the BJP is setting a clear target for the upcoming polls.
“BJP aims to win 10 to 15 seats in whole Meghalaya in 2028 election. Shillong town atleast five seats we will win this time,” he added.
Responding to questions on whether the BJP perceives itself as a principal contender in the State’s political landscape, Hek maintained that the party does not underestimate any opponent and acknowledged the presence of multiple political forces in the fray, including the Congress, VPP and NPP, each with its own electoral strategy.
He added that the BJP will contest firmly and expressed confidence in the party’s prospects in Shillong, reiterating the target of winning at least five seats from the town in the next Assembly elections.
