In a move to revolutionize the agro-processing landscape of Meghalaya, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma laid the foundation stone for the ₹7.18 crore Fruit Dehydration Unit at Songsak in East Garo Hills.
“This facility is being developed under a Community Public-Private Partnership (CPPP) model and funded through the Meghalaya Basin Management Agency (MBMA), Government of Meghalaya,” The CM announced.
The high-capacity unit will be operated by ABRI FPO Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd. With a robust annual intake of 7,400 metric tonnes of fresh fruits, the facility is expected to yield 886 metric tonnes of dehydrated fruit products every year.
“This initiative marks a transformative investment in the agricultural value chain. It will empower local farmers and producer groups by adding value to their produce and opening up new market opportunities,” the Chief Minister stated, highlighting the potential of the project to uplift rural livelihoods and position Meghalaya as a hub for fruit-based agro-industries.
