Tynsong Assures Normalcy After Arson at Star Cement Plant

Shillong, May 20: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Home (Police), Prestone Tynsong, on Tuesday said that the situation at Lumshnong in East Jaintia Hills, where over 15 trucks were torched at Star Cement premises, is now under control.

“The SP and DC are on the job. We have already strengthened the security forces there. I am happy that no untoward incident happened and I am sure within a few days from now everything will be cool and calm,” he said.

Tension spiralled into large-scale violence in Lumshnong on Sunday night after a youth was tragically died in a road accident involving a Star Cement truck, triggering a furious mob attack at the company premises. What began as a traffic accident swiftly escalated into chaos, with an armed mob torching as many as 15 trucks and vandalising company property.
