Two Arrested in North Garo Hills for Viral Video Promoting Anti-India Hatred, Supporting Pakistan
Two individuals have been arrested by North Garo Hills police in connection with a viral video that circulated widely on social media platforms, including Facebook and WhatsApp, containing inflammatory slogans and religious hatred in Garo language, supporting Pakistan and calling for attacks against India.
The video, originally uploaded from the Facebook account of one Silgring D. Sangma, was found to contain content deemed detrimental to the sovereignty and integrity of the nation, especially at a time of heightened sensitivity.
Following swift action, the North Garo Hills District Administration lodged a written FIR on May 15 at Bajengdoba Police Station, leading to the registration of a case (Bajengdoba PS Case No. 14/2025) under Section 152/197(1)(d) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
In the course of investigation, police identified and apprehended the two accused—Silgring D. Sangma of Chorebolbok village and Asbath B. Marak of Chambildam village, both under Bajengdoba PS jurisdiction. The arrests were made on May 17.
Authorities confirmed that further investigation is underway to determine the motive, possible links, and whether there are other individuals involved in spreading such divisive propaganda. District officials urged the public to refrain from sharing content that could incite communal disharmony or pose a threat to national unity.
