SHILLONG, 5 June 2025: National People’s Party (NPP) leader and Cabinet Minister Rakkam A Sangma has thrown a direct challenge to the Voice of the People Party (VPP), urging the Opposition to broaden its reach across Meghalaya if it seeks recognition as a true state party. Addressing reporters on Thursday, Sangma questioned the VPP’s statewide presence and called on the party to make itself visible and acceptable to all communities.
“You (VPP) should display your colours and preach to the people. If you want to grow, you should be acceptable by one and all, we should not leave any rooms for criticism. We should not have any boundary to be drawn, I feel they should also try there,” he stated.
As the political tempo begins to build ahead of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections, Sangma said the NPP is already gearing up for the polls.
“Under the dynamic leadership of our chief minister, we are already on the ground preparing (for the GHADC polls),” Sangma told reporters.
Highlighting the party’s strategic readiness, the NPP leader likened the upcoming contest to a sporting challenge, saying, “We know the political pitch of the state. We will put up players according to the pitch and playground.”
