NEHU and OM System to Conduct Hands-On Photography Workshop from May 20

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, is set to host a three-day Professional Photography Training Programme from May 20 to 22, in collaboration with OM System (formerly Olympus Corporation).

“This is a golden opportunity for budding photographers to learn from some of the best in the industry,” NEHU said.

Organised with OM System, a global leader in imaging technology, the workshop promises in-depth exposure to high-performance camera systems widely used by professionals and enthusiasts.

Participants will engage in hands-on training with OM System’s advanced cameras and lenses, learning everything from core operations and lighting to visual storytelling and creative framing. “We’re focusing on a complete learning experience — both technical and artistic,” said the organisers.

Three accomplished professionals will lead the training. Ravendra Pal, Product Manager at OM System, will focus on imaging technology. “It’s about understanding the tool to master the image,” NEHU in a statement said.
Arihant Mukhedkar, a reputed fashion and advertising photographer, will train participants on framing, lighting and storytelling. “Photography is about emotion and precision,” it shared. Mr. Sudipta Chakraborty, a globally acclaimed wildlife photographer, will offer tips on patience, timing, and capturing nature. “Every frame is a story waiting to be told,” it said.

Designed for students of journalism, mass communication, and visual arts, the programme aims to equip learners with professional-level skills. “The idea is to sharpen their storytelling abilities using the lens,” said a department statement.

The sessions will also promote collaboration, critical thinking, and industry-readiness for media careers. “We want our students to graduate with the skills and confidence to excel in dynamic media landscapes,” said the statement said.
