Meghalaya Seeks CUET-UG 2025 Date Deferral Pending Centre Readiness

Meghalaya Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma has urged Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to defer the CUET (UG) 2025 examination dates for students from Meghalaya until additional examination centres within the state are fully verified and ready. His request follows Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma’s earlier communication regarding the centre allocation crisis affecting thousands of students.

“With reference to the communication from the Chief Minister of Meghalaya (Do. No. CM/PER-UM12025/20 dated Shillong, the 10th May 2025) concerning the allocation of CUET (UG) 2025 centres, I would like to express sincere appreciation to the National Testing Agency (NTA) for its prompt and proactive response to the concerns raised,” Rakkam Sangma stated.

He informed that the Meghalaya government, in response to the NTA’s request, has identified over 200 additional computer nodes to facilitate the smooth conduct of the exam within the state. “The list of these proposed venues has already been shared with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the agency responsible for vetting such centres. The State Government remains committed to extending full assistance in identifying and facilitating more such centres equipped with computer infrastructure, as needed,” he added.

TCS is expected to carry out physical inspections of these sites over the coming days. In view of this, Sangma has made a strong plea for postponement. “In light of this, I kindly request that the CUET (UG) 2025 examination dates for Meghalaya be deferred until the additional centres are verified and ready for allocation. This will help ensure that all candidates from Meghalaya can be accommodated within the state, thereby avoiding the challenges associated with long-distance travel.”

“We deeply value the cooperation and timely support extended by NTA in addressing the concerns of students from Meghalaya, and we look forward to your continued assistance in this regard,” the Education Minister concluded.
