Meghalaya Govt unveils ₹6.06 crore Hospitality Scholarship 

The Meghalaya Government has taken a landmark step in building a skilled workforce in the tourism and hospitality sector with the launch of the Chief Minister’s Hospitality Scholarship Programme, investing ₹6.06 crore  to fully support initially 165 students over five years with 100 percent tuition fee coverage at the Institute of Hotel Management. The initiative translates to an investment of ₹3.67 lakh per student, offering young talent a gateway to global opportunities in professional hospitality education.

Minister in charge of Social Welfare, Paul Lyngdoh, while announcing the programme on Tuesday, said, “The objective of this scholarship program is to encourage entry into higher professional education in hospitality, to guide and nurture youths for global opportunities and strengthen the state’s skilled workforce in the hospitality sector.” He further explained, “Beneficiaries will be drawn from all blocks of Meghalaya… one from each block, each meaning of 55 students from one from each block for three consecutive batches, meaning altogether we will cover 165 students.”

Eligible candidates must be permanent residents of Meghalaya, have cleared Class 12 with English as a subject, and belong to families with an annual income of less than ₹3.00 lakh. There is no age restriction, and selection will be based on merit and interest, with nominations made by Block Development Officers and final selection at the State Level Selection Committee.
