Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Monday inaugurated the newly constructed Hubert Rosario Road in Spein, Mookaswan, West Jaintia Hills. The 1.13-kilometre stretch, built at a cost of ₹1.93 crore, serves as an approach road to the Hubert Acupressure Centre.
Describing the road as a transformative project for the community, CM Sangma said the real worth of any developmental initiative lies not in its financial outlay but in the impact it has on people’s lives. “This road may be a ₹1.93 crore project in terms of budget, but to me, it is priceless in the way it touches lives—especially those in pain, those seeking healing, and the dedicated sisters providing that healing,” he remarked.
Highlighting the State’s infrastructure push, the Chief Minister pointed out that while road projects worth ₹659 crore were sanctioned in Meghalaya between 1991 and 2018, over ₹4,000 crore has been approved in the past seven years alone. He also noted that nearly 70% of all rural roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) have been completed during this period.
Further, Sangma stated that Meghalaya has emerged as one of the leading States in healthcare investment, allocating over 8% of its annual budget—more than ₹1,000 crore—to the health sector. He said the government’s efforts include collaboration with both state-run and mission hospitals, and added that rural healthcare institutions such as the Hubert Acupressure Centre are expected to be incorporated in the next phase of infrastructure support.
Emphasising a more inclusive approach to wellness, the Chief Minister also announced that the government has decided to extend support to traditional healing systems across the State, aiming to integrate indigenous knowledge with formal healthcare delivery.
Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, who was present at the event, lauded the unity and spirit of the Mookaswan community and commended the healthcare workers for their service.
The ceremony was attended by Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh of the Shillong Diocese, Bishop Ferdinand Dkhar of the Jowai Diocese, Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla, officials from the Public Works Department, and members of the local administration.
