Sohra, June 2 — A decomposed male body was discovered near the Weisawdong Falls, close to the Riat Arliang parking lot in Umblai, Sohra, on Monday afternoon, adding a grim twist to the search for a missing honeymooning couple from Madhya Pradesh.
The discovery was made by a search team deployed to trace Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife Sonam, a couple from Indore who mysteriously disappeared in the area on May 23 during their visit to Meghalaya. The case had prompted a multi-agency search operation in and around Sohra, drawing widespread concern.
The body, found in an advanced state of decomposition, was initially detected when drone surveillance captured chilling visuals of human legs along a cliffside near the popular tourist site. Rescue personnel later retrieved the remains from the steep terrain. Due to the extent of decomposition, identification has proven difficult. Only remnants of clothing and shoes were recovered alongside the body, providing minimal clues.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the remains are those of Raja Raghuvanshi.
With one body recovered and one person still missing, the mystery surrounding the couple’s disappearance remains unsolved, even as investigators push forward in the face of mounting uncertainty.
