Adokgre in North Garo Hills is grappling with an escalating education crisis as the lone higher secondary school under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) reaches full capacity, denying admission to scores of Class 10 pass-outs. In response, Cherak Watre Momin, Member of the District Council (MDC) representing the 26-Kharkutta Constituency under the Bar Hilla Autonomous District Council, has written a formal appeal to Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, seeking urgent intervention.
The letter, routed through the Deputy Commissioner of North Garo Hills, highlights the grave consequences of limited infrastructure in the only available 10+2 institution in the Adokgre area. Momin stated, “The region has only one higher secondary school under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) offering 10+2 education. Unfortunately, this institution is no longer able to accommodate the growing number of Class 10 pass-outs due to limited capacity. This has resulted in many eligible students being denied admission to continue their studies.”
Stressing the economic vulnerability of affected families, Momin added, “The parents of these students are mostly from economically weaker backgrounds and are unable to send their children to distant locations for further education. This has created a serious roadblock in the academic progression of our youth, putting their future at risk.”
As an immediate remedy, the MDC has requested the government to introduce a morning shift within the existing RMSA school infrastructure. “I earnestly request your good office to look into this matter urgently and consider implementing a morning shift in the existing RMSA school in Adokgre. This measure would significantly increase the intake capacity and ensure that all deserving students are given a fair opportunity to pursue their higher secondary education.”
With the academic futures of dozens of students hanging in the balance, Momin expressed confidence that the Chief Minister’s leadership would bring swift and effective relief to the neglected students of Adokgre.
