Tiranga Yatra Held in Shillong to Mark Operation Success and Honour Armed Forces
Shillong, May 16: A wave of patriotic pride surged through the heart of Shillong on Thursday as the city hosted a spirited Tiranga Yatra in celebration of Operation Sindoor’s success and in honour of the Indian Armed Forces. The rally, a vibrant mix of saffron, white, and green, was organised by Citizens for National Security and witnessed widespread participation from political leaders, Army personnel, and citizens from various walks of life.
Starting from Civil Hospital Point and culminating at the Rhino Prerna Sthal near Rhino Park, the march resonated with chants of national unity, gratitude to the armed forces, and slogans condemning Pakistan’s provocation. Senior BJP leaders, MLAs, and hundreds of residents rallied in unison, sending out a clear message of national solidarity.
BJP MLAs A.L. Hek and Sanbor Shullai led the march, joined by Meghalaya BJP President Rikman G Momin, state spokesperson M Kharkrang, and several community leaders and youth representatives.
“We give our solidarity to our armed forces and thank our Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji who taught lessons to Pakistan,” said Rikman G Momin. “Terrorism will be smashed out within few days to come.”
BJP Spokesperson M Kharkrang said, “We invited everyone, regardless of political affiliation, to show solidarity with the Armed Forces. Each jawan is a son, a father, or a brother protecting us.” Emphasising local participation in defence services, he added, “We’ve seen many boys from Mawkyrwat join the Army. Our girls will join too—not just the Army, but all forces. Thirty or forty years ago, people from our community rarely joined the police. Today, there are over one lakh applications for Meghalaya police.”
Cabinet Minister A.L. Hek underlined the spirit of national unity, saying, “We all, as Indian citizens, have the same feeling. We are one to fight against any terrorism.”
The Tiranga Yatra in Shillong served not just as a commemoration of military valour but as a strong expression of unity, pride, and unwavering support for India’s defenders.
