Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday said violence was not acceptable and asserted that the law would take its course against individuals found to be involved in violent incidents, as the Government continued to monitor the situation and assess the need for further strengthening of the security presence.
Sangma said the administration was taking action wherever there was evidence of involvement in violence, while maintaining that the situation remained under control and that concerns would continue to be addressed through dialogue with different stakeholders.
Talking to Mediapersons in Shillong, the Chief Minister said, “But, at the same time, we also very clear in all of this discussions, and all, violence is not acceptable and therefore whenever we are finding that the proof is there, and individuals have been involved.”
Sangma said authorities were taking action in accordance with the law and that the legal process would continue.
“We are taking action as per law, And that will be there because that’s how law is,” He added, “Law has to take its its course, and law has to be applied.”
Sangma said the Government was continuously monitoring the situation and would take necessary measures to strengthen the overall presence of security forces if required.
He further said, “So, therefore, that aspect is happening. But, as I said, we are continuously monitoring the situation and situation, As I said, we will is under control, but we will ensure that the Necessary steps are taken to further strengthen the overall Presence of the forces are forces.”
“There the large number Is there already if necessary We will look into the requirements if more, and as I said, we’ll continue to engage with different stakeholders to ensure that whatever concerns are there are addressed through dialogue,” the CM said.
Sangma said a large number of security personnel were already deployed and the Government would assess additional requirements based on the situation.
“In the past there’s been some tension, So they will always be some kind of lingering of the tension that is there. But We are all working together To ensure that peace and Tranquility prevails,” Sangma said adding the Government would continue to take forward the different issues being raised and discussed, while seeking to maintain peace and tranquillity through engagement and dialogue.
