Six to seven shops gutted in Wednesday night fire at Laban Last Stop market
Around six to seven shops were gutted in a fire that broke out at the Laban Last Stop market in Shillong on Wednesday night at around 8:45 pm. Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot and firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control.
The blaze affected fruit and vegetable vendors, fish and meat stalls, besides tea stalls, a saloon and teer counters operating in the market.
A vendor who lost vegetables in the fire said, “I lost everything, everything burnt. We could not understand where the fire broke out from.”
Iewduh Fire Station Officer Dinesh Rai said, “2 min past 9 pm there is a fire at last stop. Both the vehicles arrive at 3 mins and within 5 mins we controlled the fire, after 20 mins we managed to extinguished the fire. There are 6-7 shops. The cause of fire is yet to be ascertain.”
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. The incident caused partial damage to a section of the market. No casualties or injuries were reported immediately. The estimated damage is yet to be ascertained.
