The Meghalaya government on Friday dismissed rumours of a question paper leak in the Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test (MTET), even as Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui announced that the state will soon begin recruitment to fill more than 700 vacant teacher posts in government lower primary schools. Rumours of an alleged leak of the MTET LP Section Series question paper had surfaced in the plain belt of Garo Hills during the examination.
Addressing reporters, Rymbui said the MTET was being conducted smoothly and rejected speculation surrounding the examination. “MTET examination is being conducted to the best of my knowledge. It’s being going well,” he said.
On the alleged paper leak, the minister said, “Rumours is a rumour, I cannot reply to the rumours.”
Rymbui said the MTET, conducted on Friday, is a crucial step in the recruitment process for teachers. “We have over 700 teacher vacancies only in government lower primary schools. The recruitment will be out very soon,” he said, adding, “MTET is being conducted today.”
The minister also said the government would address vacancies in aided schools, where recruitment has remained pending for several years. “There are also some vacancies in the aided schools in which recruitment has not happened for the last few years. We will give permission on a case to case basis so recruitment will start in a few months time,” he added.
