Over 23,500 Self Enumerations Completed in Meghalaya, numbers likely to increase

Meghalaya has recorded a total of 23,530 completed self enumerations as part of the ongoing Census exercise, with the figures expected to rise further as the self-enumeration process remains open till midnight on May 15. Director of Census Operations Meghalaya Biswajit Pegu said West Khasi Hills registered the highest number of self enumerations completed with 4,973 entries, followed by East Khasi Hills with 3,967. He said other districts had also performed well, though some border districts faced certain difficulties in carrying out self enumeration, which may have affected their overall numbers.

Pegu said, “All the 12 Districts they have completed 100 percent Geo tagging of land marks as well as creation and demarcation of the house listing blocks. We will be engaging 8309 numbers of enumeration and supervisors and it is very important that they are trained up well and we have already completed training at all levels.”

He added, “Enumeration and supervisors who are the main warriors who will be going to the field for door to door data collection so they well trained and ready to go for House Listing enumeration from Tomorrow.”

Pegu informed that the House Listing exercise would be conducted from May 16 to June 14 over a period of 30 days.

According to the Directorate of Census Operations Meghalaya, the State currently has 12 districts, 56 C&RD blocks, nine statutory towns, seven census towns and one urban agglomeration. The State also has 7,428 villages and 9,950 House Listing Blocks as on May 13, 2026.
