Meghalaya Government to Operationalize Tura Medical College by Next Academic Session

The Meghalaya government has intensified efforts to operationalise the long-awaited Tura Medical College from the next academic session, with the recruitment process for faculty members already underway. The move is expected to significantly strengthen medical education and healthcare infrastructure in the State, particularly in the Garo Hills region, while expanding opportunities for aspiring medical students within Meghalaya.
Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla said the proposed government medical college in Tura is planned with an intake capacity of 150 seats and will function as a State-run institution aimed at serving the people of Meghalaya.
Speaking to mediapersons in Shillong, Shylla said, “Tura Medical college will have 150 seats. Ultimately it’s for the people that why the Tura Medical college will be Government medical College, we have floated the advertisement for the faculty for the Tura medical College. We want to operationalize it by next session to take the student but that we will know only after the completion of the recruitment process.”
