Exclusive

Senior BJP legislator and former Cabinet Minister AL Hek on Friday exuded confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party will once again form the government in Assam, asserting that strong leadership, organisational depth and a clear understanding of ground realities will ensure the party’s return to power while also shaping political outcomes across the Northeast.
Underlining the party’s confidence, Hek said, “Under the leadership of the Assam State BJP President Member of Parliament Dilip Saikia and Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma who led from the front, BJP will come back in Assam. BJP will form again Government in Assam.” He further added, “Every body is expecting Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa sarma will continue to become chief Minister of Assam.”
Responding to concerns over the denial of tickets to several sitting MLAs by the Assam BJP, Hek dismissed any negative fallout, stating, “our party is the one political party in the whole which has done a lot of grassroot research, they understand better. Ground reality is known by Assam BJP and its leaders.”
Positioning Assam as politically pivotal to the region, Hek remarked on its historical and strategic importance, saying, “Big brother for all the states of North East, During undivided Assam, Assam was the states where Shillong was the capital. Definitely Assam is the big brother.”
On whether the Assam election outcome would influence other northeastern states, Hek maintained that the ripple effect would be significant. “Obviously the performance of BJP in Assam will reflect in all the North East, every body are eyeing the Assam elections results only. Once again as Assam becomes very strong under BJP in Assam, definitely it will reflection North East,” he said.
